How to Reconstitute a Lyophilized Vial
Using a pre-filled pen? Pens are supplied pre-mixed and ready for research use — no reconstitution is required. Simply store as directed below. This protocol applies to lyophilized (freeze-dried powder) vials only.
Prepare & Sanitise
Work on a clean, stable surface. Wipe the rubber stoppers of both the peptide vial and the bacteriostatic water vial with a fresh alcohol swab and allow them to air-dry fully.
Draw the BAC Water
Using a sterile syringe, draw the required volume of bacteriostatic water. Use the calculator above to determine the volume that gives your target concentration.
Add Water Slowly
Insert the needle through the peptide vial's stopper at an angle and let the water run gently down the inside wall of the glass. Never jet the stream directly onto the powder.
Swirl — Never Shake
Gently swirl or roll the vial until the powder fully dissolves. Shaking creates foaming and shear stress that can degrade fragile peptide bonds.
Inspect the Solution
The reconstituted solution should be clear and free of visible particles. If cloudiness or particulates persist after full dissolution, do not use the material.
Label & Refrigerate
Record the reconstitution date and final concentration on the vial label, then store refrigerated at 2–8 °C. See the storage guidelines below.
Storage Guidelines
Before Reconstitution
- Store sealed vials refrigerated at 2–8 °C, away from direct light
- For long-term storage (6+ months), freeze at −20 °C
- Short periods at cool room temperature (e.g. during transit) do not compromise lyophilized stability
- Keep vials sealed and dry until reconstitution
After Reconstitution
- Refrigerate at 2–8 °C immediately after mixing
- With bacteriostatic water, solutions are typically stable for 4–8 weeks refrigerated
- Do not freeze reconstituted solutions — freeze–thaw cycles degrade peptides
- Minimise agitation and light exposure; label with date and concentration
Pre-Filled Pens
- Pens arrive pre-mixed — no reconstitution needed
- Store refrigerated at 2–8 °C with the cap on
- Never freeze a pen — freezing permanently damages the solution
- Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources
